Search within eccenca

eccenca allows applications to use a large set of retrieval systems with an abstracted unified message structure. This unified message structure is independent from any retrieval technology and the most prominent is the Simple Search.
The Simple Search is an easy to use XML message that is transformed into a more retrieval specific search query, the Advanced Search. The Advanced Search is not the native format of the retrieval engine but servers as an intermediate step reflecting all of the engine's features and capabilities while still abstracting them.

It is possible to use the Advances Search directly with eccenca but the more common approach is to use the Simple Search and let the system do the transformation.

Transformation occurs on these different scopes or levels:

  1. Search Template
  2. Field Template
  3. Fallback Configuration
Query Level
Field Level
Field Level

These mechanisms are evaluated in the order given above. If one doesn't apply then, and only then, the next is attempted. When searching it is guaranteed that the last always exists.
