Introduction and Scope

eccenca Documentation

Intended Audience

eccenca CE is no search portal it is an integration framework and therefore this documentation contained in this wiki is targeted for integrators and developers rather than end users.

Prerequisites of the Reader

To fully understand eccenca you need a basic and sometimes even advanced knowledge of the concepts and mechanics in SMILA on which eccenca is built. Read SMILA's online documentation to get at least an overview. Otherwise it will be very hard to understand the documentation on these pages as they assume this basic knowledge.

It also helps to know the history of the project to understand or at least guess why certain things are as they are.

eccenca originated to some part from brox's EIF product (see eccenca vs. SMILA) and hence the current documentation has been taken to that extend from the EIF documentation, having adapted it to the eccenca CE context, i.e. to Lucene specifics. However, in a lot of places you will find content, and notions that are clearly in the context of being able to plug in diff. search technologies.

What shall I read first?

Well, that quite heavily depends on what you want to know. This little guide below assumes that you want to try out eccenca to get going fast on a simple use case.
